Mammoth Mountain Snow Report Dec. 30, 2010

This is the snow report prepared daily for Mammoth Ski Club members. I was going to ski today, but the winds combined with the temperatures convinced me to ski tomorrow. This morning Mammoth Mountain Ski resort shows  6-8″ of new snow over the last 24 hours added to their 11-18 foot snow base. The storm has moved out of the area, but left extremely cold air behind it.

There should be some good blown powder on the lee side of the ridges today. The National Weather Service predicts a High of 16 F today, and a Low of 1 F. The winds in Mammoth Lakes are out of the NE at 4 mph with gusts to 21 mph.  They predict a 20% chance of snow today, but the radar loop shows the main moisture is already past us.

Chair 1 wind guages shows a steady wind of 25 with gusts to 50 over the last hour. Tomorrow is supposed to be light winds again. I plan to brave the Christmas crowd tomorrow, and maybe ski June Mt. See You On the Slopes!
