Mammoth Mountain Snow Report Dec. 31, 2010

This is the daily snow report prepared especially for Mammoth Ski Club members. You can’t beat the Mammoth Mountain weather. It dumps, then leaves us gorgeous, sunny days. This is the view that greeted me at the top of chair 2 at opening today:

The air temperature was 2 F in the parking lot at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort at 8:am. There was no wind, but I still wore an extra layer on top, and a balaclava to keep my face from freezing off. We skied chairs 2, 3, and 1, then went to 12 for a few laps. Before 12 got crowded, we went to the backside, and skied chair 14. The backside was nice, and Hemlock Ridge looked awesome. Here’s the view of Hemlock from 14.

The views from the backside are always awesome of the Minarets, Mt. Banner and Ritter. I took this shot from the trees.

Then we skied back to chair 1 to chair 10 to get to Back for More, and chair 25. Here was the view of Dave’s Run from the top of chair 10 basically. Thank you Dave McCoy for creating such a wonderful snow playground!

The skiing was excellent today, and the snow was as soft as butter. It wasn’t until about 11:30 before we had to wait in any lift lines. I’m so spoiled with Mammoth Mountain’s #1 rated lift system, that I went home because next week the whole mounatin will be open, and the Holiday crowds will be gone. See You on the Slopes!
