I like to blog daily on the snow conditions, but it is pretty stable for the next week or so. This morning the National Weather Service forecasts a High of 43 and a Low of 19 F for Mammoth Lakes. There is a light breeze in town out of the NNE at 9 with gusts to 19.
Chair 1 wind guage shows a steady wind of about 20 mph. The snow base is 9-15 feet with no new snow, and none expected for a week. On slope it was 34 F at opening.
The webcams show a strong crowd as can be expected on the weekends. Mammoth Ski Club members know that it is always alot less crowded on the weekdays. The groomed runs are groomed like freeways, so that is where the best skiing will be. The steeps and bumps have firmed up alot, and you really need sharp edges and a good tune up to have a chance to have fun in that terrain.
I’m traveling to speak at an event in Orlando from Monday until Wednesday, so my posts will be short until I have another chance to ski and give you a full, on-slope report. See You On the Slopes!
