Mammoth Mountain Ski Report Jan. 23, 2011

Today is another gorgeous day at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 42 and a Low of 20 for Mammoth Lakes weather. The winds today are light out of the E at 5 with gusts to 10 mph in town.

The wind guage on chair 1 shows a steady wind of 20 with gusts to 30, but this is higher than it would be elsewhere on Mammoth Mountain. The webcam shows the normal weekend crowds.

I was reading a book titled, “Old Mammoth” by Adele Reed, and discovered that there was a former Mammoth Ski Club started in March of 1941. They were the ones that would hold the annual Easter egg hunts on skis in costumes. There were prizes awarded for many categories. There were classic old photos of Dave and Roma McCoy dresses in grass skirts at these events. One guy had a set of 10′ skis. I had no idea when I met with Dave McCoy the other day that he had been a member of the former Mammoth Ski Club. What a Kick!

I’m traveling to speak at a marketing event in Orlando the next few days, so my blog posts are likely to be brief during the next few days while I’m traveling. I can tell you from experience it is always nice to get home, and back on the slopes! Have fun.
