Mammoth Mountain Ski Report March 29, 2011 for Mammoth Ski Club – 50.5 FEET SO FAR!

It was a little windy early today, but the winds died down about 10: am leaving a wonderful “day on the hill”. I skied with 2 Mammoth Ski Club members, and took 179 photos on Center Bowl, MJB’s, Dropout 2, Wipeout 2 & 3, Paranoids and Avalanche Chute 2 with my Nikon DSLR and long lens. We got some classic shots like skiing through the rock at Wipeout 2.

The snow is really good, soft and carvable. The crowds have been low so the top did not get skied up fast after the last storm. The entire top today was not groomed including Cornice. So there were many cornices at the top of runs and nice , fun steep drops into the upper chutes.

Mammoth now has had 606″ of snowfall so far this season which is the most they have ever had since they began keeping records in 1969-1970. That’s 50.5 feet of snow so far, and there’s more coming this weekend!

Spring and Summer skiing at Mammoth Mountain ski resort will be epic. Today people were skiing a run between Hangman’s and Varmits that I have never seen covered in snow at any time of the season. Make your plans to come up and ski NOW.
