Mammoth Mountain Ski Report April 22, 2011 for Mammoth Ski Club-SNOW, SNOW AND MORE SNOW!

It was mostly sunny in the morning, but by early afternoon you could see the next front moving in. Here’s the last glimpse of the Minarets as Mts. Banner and Ritter get obscured by clouds:

The Minarets are still visable from Mammoth Mountain this morning.

I went skiing today in the break in the storms, and it was really good. In the last 36 hours it snowed about 16″ over the 13-23 foot snow base at Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. This latest snowfall filled in the top of the mountain completely, and they opened the top about 8:45 am. I had hit Rodger’s Ridge early for first tracks, and it was filled in and fun. Then I saw they were loading the gondola, so I jumped on that and skied perfect Climax from the middle of the nice cornice there. Here’s how it looked after my first 2 laps down skier’s left on Climax:

Mammoth Mountain’s Climax with a nice cornice and fresh powder, 4/22/11.

Skiing is still awesome the 3rd week of April at Mammoth Mountain and we are predicted to get more snow over the next 36 hours. I’ll keep you up to date on ski conditions here.
