Mammoth Mountain Ski Report November 10, 2011 for Mammoth Ski Club

I skied opening day today at Mammoth Mountain, and it was really fun. I expected a big crowd at chair 1 shortly after opening, but there was none. Here’s what Broadway looked like on my way up:

Broadway had great early season coverage as you can see, and it was the softest, most carvable snow at Mammoth Mountain today.

Chairs 1, 3, 6, 11 and G1 were open today. I skied chairs 1 and 3, and it felt really good to be back carving on the snow. The views especially of the Minarets and Mts. Banner and Ritter were gorgeous. Saddle Bowl on the back of 3 was fun, and had no rocks or dirt showing. Here’s what the upper slopes looked like this morning:

Here are the views of Corndrop and Dropout chutes. Looks like all Mammoth Mountain needs is one good dump to open up more terrain.
